Sustainable & Organic Cotton.
25% of the worldwide production of textile fibres is currently based on cotton, which is about 25 Million tonnes annually – only 1% of which is organic cotton. Our organic cotton is produced according to the guidelines of organic farming. No toxic chemicals are used in the cultivation of the cotton, which keeps the ground water clean. In addition, the soil is not damaged by monocultures and pest infestation are reduced. No genetically modified seeds are used and emissions and water consumption are lower than in conventional cultivation. The price of organic cotton is usually higher, but it offers any advantages. It’s gentler on the skin of the wearer and by buying organic cotton you invest in water protection, clean air and better soil. The livelihood of the farmers and fair working conditions in the cultivation, harvesting by hand and further processing of organic cotton as well as resource saving management and waste water filtering is ensured.
Recycled Cotton.
By reusing leftover material from existing cotton, the useful life of the already produced fibres can be extended and environmental resources that arise during cotton production, such as the water consumption required, can be saved. Recycled cotton is also soft and comfortable to wear.
Oui white shirts made of sustainable organic cotton.
For our print shirts, that are mainly produced in Europe, we use organic cotton that is certified with GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).
A large part of Oui denim is made from sustainable and recycled cotton.
Sustainable Knit.
The launch of our sustainable knit collection made from recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles is another important step in the field of sustainability. In close cooperation with our production partners in Italy, high quality must haves have been created from a feather-like wool blend quality with recycled polyester content. In a special spinning process, collected deposit bottles are melted down and processed into a polyester thread. The thread is then twisted with feather-light wool in the air-flow system as a wick. This is how the yarn for our sustainable knitting series is created and is made in Italy.
Recycled polyester fibres are produced 100% without chemical additives or harmful substances. As plastic is the worlds number one polluter, this type of upcycling is considered particularly sustainable and environmentally friendly. In addition, recycled polyester used as a blended fabric improves the care properties of natural fibres. Our sustainable knitted products are therefore particularly easy care and absolutely long-lasting favourite items.
Sustainable Wool.
Recycled or sustainable wool is obtained from sorted and cleaned fibres from pre-consumer resources, such as factory waste, and post consumer sources, such as returned garments. The process allows the useful life of already produced fibres to be extended in an environmentally friendly way. Most of the recycled wool is blended with polyester to make the fibres longer for the production of yarn. New woven goods are then woven with a proportion of new raw fibres that hardly show any difference in quality characteristics compared to newly produced woollen goods.
